We are delighted to have been shortlisted in the Temporary Works Initiative of the Year Category of British Construction Industry Awards 2023 with Remediation of the Gasholder No. 1 at the Kennington Gasholder Station!
This Grade II listed, wrought iron structure was the world’s largest gasholder when completed in 1879 and it is visible from the Oval Cricket Ground.

The unusual and complex temporary works solution developed by Wentworth House Partnership provided vertical & lateral support for the lattice columns to facilitate the demolition of masonry piers.
It is considered that the implementation of innovative clamping mechanism which eliminated the need for drilling / welding of the historical steelwork, the approach to assurance of safety by in-situ testing, repeat use of modular temporary works and reduction of work-at-height have the potential to set a standard in the field of temporary support and rehabilitation of high-rise historical structures.

Wentworth House Partnership developed the scheme from concept to detail design stage with close cooperation with the Keltbray Operation teams.

The project is a testimony of Keltbray’s multi-disciplinary capabilities and its commitment to redefine the way sustainable development is delivered.
