Shieldhall Tunnel

Wentworth House Partnership designed TBM launching and reception structures including temporary support to the tunnel rings in the launch chamber and other tunnelling temporary works below ground. We also designed pipe fixing systems within down shafts and the main tunnel to support temporary slurry and power lines.

Another part of this project was the design of a steep temporary cutting within secant walls to enable fast excavation for the 200m length ‘open cut’ area of the sewer; the design of a geo-grid reinforced temporary working platform for a 750t mobile crane and ground bearing timber platform for a 400t crawler crane working in proximity of deep shafts and a high pressure gas main.

Settlement analysis and road damage assessment, as well as assessment of the foundations for site compound, were also required.

We then designed shallow foundations supporting temporary site buildings; light weight scaffold system roofs; and temporary service diversions.
